So I've been working with a client for about six months now, its a big company. I'm trying to get the 1 for a certain term and it makes no sense i'm not there. I have more backlinks, better quality backlinks, older domain age, excellent tags, higher PR than most of the guy ahead of me? Any suggestions to what might be going on? I guess they have less content on page, but I went through the other guys sites and counted how many times the term was said I'm trying to rank for and its about the same.

Right, I've a site that I've been running for 11 months and the domain is .info
Its in a small niche but I'm happy with it. Its more a hobby forum that is starting to get active. I rank 4th for my keyword and have around 3500+ backlinks and a pr3. A 5 year+ .net domain of the same domain as my .info became available yesterday and I bought it. What's the best way of setting this up. I'd say a .net is liked more by big G than .info and its also older too.
SERP dillemma
Guys and gals, I have a big dilemma,
I have been building backlinks to some of the pages of my blog like crazy in the last couple of weeks, but I see almost no change in their SERP.
Some of these pages went from 5 to 150 backlinks in the last two weeks and yet their SERP has barely improved. Most pages on other sites that rank better than my pages barely have 15-20 backlinks and from what I’ve checked, they’re not higher quality than the backlinks I have.
What’s going on here? Is there a waiting period for backlinks to take effect or something?Do I have to beat domain's 10,000 backlinks or page's 50 backlinks?
I want to get #1 google position on a certain keyword.
Now the #1 position belongs to a page on a very large domain - the page itself have 50 backlinks to it, while the domain have 10,000+ backlinks.
My question is, to beat the #1 page in term of backlinks, do I have to beat the 50 links or do I have to beat 10,000 links?
I've check and those 50 links are mostly from blog and forums posts.

I have been working on the SEO of one of my sites and I built about 30 .edu backlinks in about a week. Now when I check them I see that about half of them are gone(deleted by admins). So, am I doing something wrong or building .edu backlinks is nothing but a waste of time.
Notes: I saw some short term boost in my rankings for a few days. My comments were all related to the posts, not simply spams such as "nice share, great post,...". But I guess edu blog owners do not look at the comment, they filter comments by looking at the URL of the comment. And once they spot a marketing-oriented blog they simply delete it. I guess, it will be better to find non-active auto-approve edu blogs.
What type of spaming is this? they have dominated v.competetive keywords using it!!!!
One of my site has a competitor who has lots of backlinks from sites like below.
The content of all these site is pure garbage that makes no sense, even the main domain of website has no relation with the niche.
The pages they have created have garbage of niche words and also many niche links.
they have a pattern in urls like
www.page.com/?wshow=keywords+something+something..
or
www.page.com/?ashow=keywords+something
I am not posting the true urls of my competitor as I dont want to embarass them or blame someone for spam..
does anyone know what they are doin?
