Calculated drop shadows in HTML5 canvas

Calculated drop shadows in HTML5 canvasview story

https://hacks.mozilla.org One of the best new features of HTML5 when it comes to visual effects is the canvas element and its API. On the surface, it doesn’t look like much – just a rectangle in the page you can paint on and wipe. Much like an etch-a-sketch. However, the ability to transform, rotate and scale its coordinate system is very powerful indeed once you master it. Today I want to quickly show how you can do (well simulate) something rather complex with it, like a calculated drop shadow on an element. To see what I mean with this, check out the following demo which is also available on the Demo Studio:

Core office hours start this week

Core office hours start this weekview story

http://drupal.org Drupal core needs more eyes and more contributors to decrease the very high amount of unresolved issues. We're going to hold the first core "office hours" this week in #drupal-contribute on freenode: Tuesday, 04:00 UTC Wednesday, 16:00 UTC Depending on how this goes, we may continue these slots weekly (with a break for DrupalCon). Why office hours? There are currently a large number of unresolved issues in the core queue, and we want to get more organised dealing with the backlog, and encourage new people to help out. Java: The Ups and Downs of 2010view story

http://www.devwebpro.com Along with the new year comes many traditions. The silly glasses, various annoying noise makers and poppers, confetti, sparklers, and champagne (or whatever alcohol is readily available) are just a few of the many items that are often synonymous with new year celebrations. Equally connected to the new year are "Year in Review" articles. Like good little lemmings, we at DevWebPro have fallen in line with our own series of Year in Review articles, already having touched on ASP .NET’s 2010. Now it’s Java’s turn, and certainly 2010 was a significant year in Java’s history. With the help of James Surgrueon on DZone.com, Alex Handy on SDTimes.com, and Darryl Taft on Linux Devices.com, we’ll review the big Java stories of 2010.

Google App Engine and JPAview story

http://www.vogella.de Using JPA on the Google AppEngine is straight forward. For some reason the documentation on the official Google App Engine side is not very easy to read therefore a little example here. Create a new web project “de.vogella.gae.persistence.jpa”. Change the generated Servlet to “PersistsServlet” and adjust the “web.xml”. Create the following two classes. The first will be your tiny data model and the other will buffer the creation of the EntityManagerFactory which can be time consuming.

What Photos Have Inspired You As a Photographer?

What Photos Have Inspired You As a Photographer?view story

http://www.orphicpixel.com If you’re a photographer, there probably is a photograph that you can point back to and say, “This is it. This was the one picture that inspired me.” The photo may not have been the one that made you actually pick up a camera, but there was something so unique, so impressive about it that you continue to aspire to reach that same level of greatness. Although I could probably Google a list of great photographs, I wanted to see what photographs inspired people. So, I asked the photography teachers who use our site to promote their classes, and this is what they had to say.
